The 14-Day AEO Framework is a sequential implementation plan that takes a professional services firm from zero AI visibility to a functional AEO foundation. It prioritizes technical fixes first (days 1-3), content restructuring second (days 4-8), authority building third (days 9-12), and measurement setup last (days 13-14). This framework assumes an existing website and established business credentials. It does not require technical expertise—every step can be executed by a business owner or delegated to existing staff.
Before You Start: The Layer 0 Audit
Before implementing any AEO strategy, verify that your technical foundation allows AI crawlers to access your site. Check your robots.txt file to confirm it allows GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and Googlebot. Verify your site loads in under 2 seconds. Confirm you have an XML sitemap submitted to Google Search Console. If any of these are missing or broken, fix them before proceeding—everything else depends on this foundation.
Days 1–3: Technical Foundation
Day 1: Schema Markup Implementation
Add comprehensive JSON-LD schema markup to every page. At minimum, implement Organization schema (business name, address, contact, services), Person schema for the firm's principal (credentials, expertise, publications), and ProfessionalService schema on service pages. This structured data tells AI systems what your business is, who runs it, and what you specialize in. Without it, AI has to guess—and usually doesn't bother.
Day 2: Google Business Profile and Directory Listings
Claim or create your Google Business Profile with complete information: categories, services, hours, service area, photos, and a detailed description. Then register on a minimum of five business directories relevant to your industry. For construction: BuildZoom, Houzz, Angi, BBB, and your local chamber. For legal: Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Lawyers.com, Justia, and FindLaw. For healthcare: Healthgrades, Zocdoc, Vitals, WebMD, and your state medical board directory. Consistency across these listings is critical—AI systems cross-reference information and trust businesses whose details match across multiple sources.
Day 3: AI Crawler Verification
Test your robots.txt configuration. Verify your sitemap is accessible and accurate. Check HTTP headers for any noindex directives. Submit all pages for indexing in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools (Bing feeds ChatGPT's browse mode). Run your homepage through Google's Rich Results Test to verify schema markup is valid and detectable.
Days 4–8: Content Restructuring
Day 4-5: Answer-First Page Rewrite
Rewrite every existing page using answer-first structure. Each page should begin with a clear, comprehensive answer to the primary question that page addresses. This answer should be extractable—if an AI copied just that paragraph, it would fully answer a user's question. Add question-based H2 headings throughout. Add structured data tables wherever you present comparative or quantitative information.
Day 6-7: FAQ Content Creation
Create dedicated FAQ sections on each service page addressing the questions your ideal clients actually ask. Not generic FAQs like "What are your hours?"—substantive questions like "How do I evaluate a general contractor's financial stability?" or "What's the difference between hourly and contingency fee structures?" Implement FAQPage schema on every page with FAQ content. This is one of the highest-impact AEO actions because AI systems directly extract and cite FAQ content.
Day 8: Author and Credential Pages
Create or enhance the firm principal's bio page with complete credentials, publications, certifications, speaking engagements, and professional memberships. Implement Person schema with all relevant attributes. This page becomes the authority anchor that AI systems reference when evaluating whether your firm is credible enough to recommend.
Days 9–12: Authority Building
Day 9-10: Content Distribution
Publish at least two substantial articles on Medium or LinkedIn addressing specific questions your target clients ask AI systems. These should link back to your website and demonstrate expertise, not sell services. Each external article creates an additional citable source and a backlink that strengthens your domain authority.
Day 11-12: Review and Citation Acquisition
Request reviews from past clients on Google Business Profile and industry-specific platforms. Even 3-5 genuine reviews significantly impact AI citation probability. Additionally, submit your business information to any industry associations, award bodies, or credential verification systems that maintain public directories. Each independent listing that confirms your existence and credentials increases AI trust signals.
Days 13–14: Measurement Baseline
Day 13: AI Citation Audit
Test 10 relevant queries across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. Document whether your firm is mentioned, whether competitors are mentioned, and what sources are cited. Save screenshots. This becomes your baseline for measuring progress.
Day 14: Monitoring System Setup
Establish a weekly cadence for re-running the same 10 queries and documenting changes. Set up Google Search Console monitoring for indexation progress. Create a GA4 segment for AI referral traffic. The 14-day sprint is complete, but AEO is an ongoing process—the foundation you've built needs consistent content updates and monitoring to compound.
